Operations at Suncor’s Base Plant will be impacted for the next couple of weeks.
Around 7 p.m. last Friday, a fire broke out at the site’s extraction area.
Suncor’s emergency services department was able to quickly get the blaze under control while all individuals in the immediate and surrounding areas were safely evacuated.
Appropriate regulators and local stakeholders were also informed of the fire.
The company says both upgraders remain online, however, they are running at minimum rates. They’re expecting to be back at full operations by early September.
In the meantime, Suncor is accelerating some third-quarter maintenance to prepare for a return to normal operations.
