The Keyano Huskies have a new head coach for their women’s volleyball squad.
On Tuesday, the college announced the hiring of Kira Sutcliffe as the new coach for the 2019-2020 season.
Sutcliffe replaces the outgoing Nic Davies – who coached the Lady Huskies to a 9-15 finish last season – resulting in a playoff-less conclusion.
She comes to the RMWB after spending last season with the Columbia Bible College of the Pacwest Conference as an Assistant Coach.
“I am honoured to be part of the Huskies Women’s Volleyball team and continue to grow a positive environment and team culture,” Sutcliffe said in a release. “I am looking forward to moving to Fort McMurray and begin working with these student-athletes as they try and achieve the goals we set in place.”
Sutcliffe played five years of Volleyball at Capilano University in North Vancouver, was a two-time Capilano Blues Female Athlete of the Year, a two-time CCAA All Canadian and a two-time PacWest Championship Tournament All-Star.
She also brings with her professional experience – having played a year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Director of Sport & Wellness Jonathan Lambert says their excited to have Sutcliffe join their group of experienced and successful coaches.
“She brings a history of success as a student-athlete in the PacWest, CCAA and as a professional,” Lambert said. “I am confident that her experience and drive for success will translate into a successful women’s volleyball program for the Huskies.”
Sutcliffe will be in Fort McMurray on August 15, with training for the 2019/20 season set to begin on August 22 at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre.
