The Fort McMurray Minor Hockey Association is speaking out against a former volunteer coach accused of sexual offences with a child.
Wood Buffalo RCMP announced on Monday they had arrested 31-year-old Steven Charles Adams and charged him with luring a child, sexual assault, and sexual exploitation.
This coming after allegations arose while he was working as a volunteer coach in 2018.
In a statement, FMMHA President Travis Galenzoski says they’ve put a plan in place to remove Adams as a coach. He adds they’re working to support the people impacted by the situation.
“Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our players, the team staff and all our members who may be impacted.”
The FMMHA is also hoping families continue to see them as an organization that’s in place to provide development and fun to the kids involved.
“Our volunteers and coaches are committed to being a positive influence in the lives of our youth,” added Galenzoski.
Adams is scheduled to make his next court appearance in Fort McMurray on January 9, 2019.
