A Wood Buffalo councillor is proposing a big change to Shell Place.
Phil Meagher brought forward a notice of motion at Tuesday’s council meeting requesting administration conduct a feasibility study on turning the outdoor section of Shell Place into an all-weather facility.
Cr. Meagher’s notice of motion: THAT Administration be directed to undertake a feasibility study to change the Shell Place stadium field and bleachers to an all-weather indoor structure and that a report on this study be presented to Council by February 5, 2019. #rmwb #ymm

The idea for Shell Place started back in 2012 as the ‘MacDonald Island Park Expansion Project.’
In 2015, the facility opened to the public which included an outdoor performance stadium and baseball stadium.
During the winter months, the outdoor sections are virtually untouched. Last week, the Alberta Football Bowl was held at Shell Place.
Wood Buffalo council will discuss this at their December 11 meeting.
