Cannabis shops are getting closer to being open in the RMWB.
Marijuana was officially legalized on Wednesday, making it possible for Canadians to buy the recreational drug.
However, no local retail stores were able to open their doors to take advantage of the day.
Communications Strategist and Stakeholders Relations with the RMWB Adam Hardiman tells Mix News they’ve approved three development permits – one for Stone Creek and two for downtown.
These shops are still in the process of getting everything approved by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis. This includes a proper license, as well as safety and fire inspections of the property.
Each location will also be 150 metres from any school and health centres.
Hardiman says the shops should be open in the coming weeks, possibly months.
Meanwhile, eight other applications for stores are currently being processed by the municipality.
In the meantime, people can still buy legal marijuana online at albertacannabis.org.
