One of Fort McMurray’s schools is celebrating five decades of educating students.
Parents, teachers, and students came together to celebrate Dr. Clark Public School’s 50th anniversary – the oldest school in the Fort McMurray Public School District – on Thursday.
Also in attendance was Councillor Krista Balsom and MLA’s Laila Goodridge and Tany Yao.
“Congratulations on your 50th anniversary. I also went to Dr. Clark School and have some fond memories of my time here,” said Yao, in a release.
To celebrate the accomplishment, students gave tours of the school showcasing the evolution and history of the school including more about Dr. Karl A. Clark who is known as the ‘father of oilsands chemistry.’
He’s known for inventing a popular method of extracting bitumen from the oilsands – using hot water and a chemical reagent.
“Each student is recognized and acknowledged as a special, important person here,” said Linda Mywaart, FMPSD Board Chair. “The learning opportunities provide strong academics and a wide range of extracurricular choice and opportunity.”
Dr. Clark’s family also sent a message to the school congratulating them on the 50-years.
