Metis Nation Of Alberta Election: Details On Candidates And Where To Vote

A regional Metis leader will find out by the end of tomorrow if he will become the next President of the Metis Nation of Alberta.

McKay Metis President Ron Quintal announced in July that he’d be running for the MNA’s leadership – citing the Nation shouldn’t be directly involving itself with the affairs of individual communities.

If elected, Quintal says he would keep the MNA out of each Metis community’s business, make sure they only get involved appropriately and reconstruct the way provincial meetings are held.

He’ll be running against current President Audrey Poitras.

Candidates running for Region 1 President – which includes the RMWB are Jimmy Cardinal, Jim Ladouceur, Corey-Ann Moran and Diane Scoville.

Voting stations are located at Fort McMurray’s Quality Inn, the Bold Centre in Lac La Biche, the Municipality of Wood Buffalo boardroom in Fort Chipewyan, Conklin’s Community Hall, Boyle’s Community Centre and the Athabasca Seniors’ Drop-In Centre.

Eligible voters can cast their ballot between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
