The Fort McMurray Monarchs have one more obstacle standing in their way of earning a perfect 2018 season.

Following their crushing 65-7 win over the Central Alberta Buccaneers – the Monarchs put their undefeated 10-0 record on the line as they host the GTA All-Stars for the CMFL Championship.

Head Coach Jesse Maddox tells Mix News it’s their toughest challenge of the year.

“They have a good quarterback, good run game, big old lineman and athletes across the board on both sides of the ball. So, it’s kind of a dream matchup for a National Championship game. I don’t expect it to be any kind of blowout whatsoever.”

The Monarchs topped the All-Stars back in 2016 for the National title, winning that game 59-45.

Maddox says this is what they’ve been working toward all season long.

“They’ve had the same problem in their conference where they’ve had a lot of lopsided victories. So, this is what it’s all about. From day one we put all our cards on the table and the goal is to host and win a title otherwise it’s a bust so, here we are.”

Kickoff on Saturday is at 5 p.m. at SMS Equipment Stadium.
