A couple of brothers are trying to help others enjoy the game of hockey.
Parker and Cruze Flett, 11 and 8 years-old, wanted to help more youth try the sport after they found out one kid didn’t have equipment.
They’ve now started a campaign to collect gear of all sizes.
“My sons came to me with this fundraising idea on their own,” said Allison Flett, the boys mother. “I’m overwhelmed by their compassion and consideration of kids their age, who don’t have the opportunity to play hockey.”
All gear collected will be donated to youth in communities across the RMWB including Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, Conklin, and Janvier.
The ‘Fort Mac Hockey Bros’ have also partnered with the Northern Lights Health Foundation and will be donating a hockey themed tree to this year’s Festival of Trees. The tree will be featured in a live auction on November 17.
The money raised will go towards funding health care innovations in Wood Buffalo.
The winning bidder will also get the opportunity to join the Flett brothers as they hand out all the donated gear.
Anyone who wants to donate any hockey gear, such as helmets, skates, gloves, and more, can do so at a drop box outside of 196 Pliska Cresent. The donation box will be around until November 12.
