Wood Buffalo RCMP have identified and charged a man following a theft in downtown Fort McMurray.

Back in July, police responded to a theft at a business near Hardin Street and Franklin Avenue, where a suspect fled the store carrying several unpaid items.

Police say they’ve charged 25-year-old Derek Marcel Cooper of Fort McKay with theft under or equal to $5000 and failure to comply with a probation order.

He’s since been released from custody on a promise to appear.

Cooper will be in a Fort McMurray courtroom on September 26.

The Mounties are thanking the public for their assistance in the investigation.
