A Fort McMurray girl is off to Toronto next week to represent Northern Alberta at the Miss Teen Canada pageant
15-year-old Alexis Pritchett has been competing in pageants since she was 12 and now, as Miss Teen Northern Alberta, she’s off to the national stage.
Pritchett tells Mix News it was her grandmother who inspired her to join the pageant world.
“My grandmother fell ill so we had to fly home where I’m from, which was Newfoundland, and aid to her needs. Then we came back four days before the pageant and I wasn’t going to do it, but my grandmother told me I had to it, so I did it for her.”
She adds she wants to be an inspiration to other girls and let them know that it’s okay to get out of your shell.
“I was a very, very shy kid. I didn’t like my photo taken, I would crawl under a table and screech, I didn’t like attention whatsoever. I got into the Boys and Girl Club and they introduced me to my first pageant which was a princess pageant.”
Voting is open for the pageant at missteenagecanada.com and takes place until August 19.
