In celebration of the Heritage Day long weekend – an archaeology roadshow is making its way to the RMWB.

The event is being put on by the Fort McMurray Heritage Society in collaboration with a group of experts known as the ‘Tree Time Archeologists.’

Event Coordinator Erin Greenwood tells Mix News the show will feature activities the whole family can enjoy.

“There’s a variety of fun activities that people can check out. If they’ve ever found something like an arrowhead or any other kind of archaeology material – they can bring that and have an archaeologist identify it for them and get a little more information on it.”

‘Tree Time’ will be providing archaeological presentations from experts and there will also be a small excavation site on hand for those who want to learn a little about what archaeologists typically do.

They’ll also be discussing the history of the field of human study as well as recent advances that have been made.

Greenwood says they’ll be providing various archaeology demonstrations.

“Aside from mock excavations where people can try their hand at what archaeologists actually do in the field, there will be a talk to chat about archaeology in our region and the finds that have been discovered here over the years.”

The roadshow runs this Saturday at Heritage Village from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
