The first phase of the long-awaited development in Eagle Ridge is close to being finished.
Centron Group started construction on ‘The Commons’ in May 2017 – which will feature the community’s new movie theatre and retail centre.
Project Manager Tak Kyle tells Mix News the theatre and some minor vendors should be operating by the fall.
He says the remaining stores should open next Spring.
“There will be a couple of full services restaurants, some fast food restaurants, miscellaneous retail stores, some coffee shops, and even medical services.”
Kyle notes a service station is also in the works, however, this won’t be opening anytime soon.
They’re also waiting for more businesses to lease some of the buildings in the property.
“Parts of the first phase, we don’t have a tenant for yet and some of those buildings will be built to suit – so we’re waiting for a tenant before we put shovels in the ground.”
Kyle adds the remaining areas will most likely be suited for restaurants.
As for the movie theatre, which will be one of the first buildings open, it will be a 37,000 square foot facility with eight wall-to-wall screens over 25-feet tall and include over 900 premium powered recliner seats.
The entire site is expected to be finished in a couple years.
“It’s hard to say, we’re probably a good two years away from being fully built out and that’s being somewhat optimistic,” he said.
The first part of the second phase has started with the majority of the work expected to start by the end of 2018.
