RCMP Officer Charged For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Two Female Members

A Wood Buffalo RCMP officer is being charged with sexual assault after a police investigation.

On November 26, 2017, two female officers reported that Staff Sergeant Jason Keays inappropriately touched them at an off-site Christmas Party.

An investigation done by the Lloydminster General Investigative Section, and support units in Edmonton, found enough evidence to advise the Crown to charge Keays with one count of sexual assault.

“The member in question has been charged and suspended. We have ensured that support processes are being made available for all concerned,” said Chief Superintendent Wendell Reimer of Eastern Alberta District.

“Workplace harassment is not tolerated at the RCMP.”

Keays won’t be allowed to contact the complainant and can’t consume and intoxicating substances.

His first court appearance will be in Fort McMurray on July 11.
