It’s baseball season and the Fort McMurray Giants are raring to go for their 2018 home opener against the Lethbridge Bulls.
A 20-28 finish last season saw the Giants rank 5th in their division and with 8 returning players – they’ve got playoffs on their mind.
Giants Vice President Dutche Iannetti tells Mix News he likes what the players have shown so far through training camp.
“We’ve got left-handed bats in the lineup, right-handed, left-handed pitchers, multiple catchers and you know, I’m just very excited to get the season underway and I feel we’re in a good position.”
The Giants closed out 2017 on a positive note – winning seven of their final ten games.
Iannetti says with eight players returning from last season they feel they’ve got a good shot at their first-ever playoff berth.
“Including three of our local boys, that will be back. We’re very optimistic this year that we’re looking good and so are the players that are coming in.”
The Giants will be opening gates early for fans this year to allow more interaction with the players.
Fort McMurray opens the season on Friday against Lethbridge at Shell Place. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
