A fire restriction is now in effect for the Fort McMurray forest area.
As of noon Wednesday, the province suspended all new and current fire permits as the wildfire danger remains at extreme.
There is currently a wildfire about 6.83 hectares in size burning roughly 60 kilometres south of Fort McMurray, near Stony Mountain. The province says 14 firefighters and 2 helicopters continue to battle the blaze, which is now under control.
Under the fire restriction, backyard fire pits and random campfires are prohibited. If you’re camping you can use fire rings, portable propane fire pits, barbecues, and gas or propane stoves.
