Gregoire Lake Provincial Park is officially open.

Many residents, along with their campers, packed the park on Thursday just ahead of the May Long Weekend.

The area has been closed off for over two years after it was damaged by the Horse River Wildfire.

Since then, many of the park’s features have been updated including adding 30 amp electrical services to all campsites and having water at individuals sites.

For people planning on going during the weekend, the day use area and boat launch will be open, however, some others sections will not be accessible as construction is on-going.  A few trails will also remain closed due to safety concerns.

Taking The Boat Out On The Water

While many were setting up their campers, one family was eager to get out on the water,

The Ridley’s were the first to use the boat launch shortly after the park opened.

John Ridley tells Mix News they really missed the convenience of the park.

“It’s closer to town then having to travel to Anzac or south shore – it’s going to make getting on the lake much easier.”

Over the past two years, the family has been keeping an eye on the work. Their trips on the water usually included a stop near the day use area to see how everything was coming along.

“We’d come along the beach and see the equipment, taking the burnt logs away, combing the sand and we knew it was going to open up this year,” added Jenny Ridley.

Despite the majority of their trips being on the water, the family is happy to see others come and use all the other features the park has to offer.

“We’re excited to take the kids to the beach again if for some reason we can’t go fishing – I know the kids are looking forward to building sandcastles.”

Their big advantage of the calm, quiet water – fishing.
