North America’s first ever indoor water ski program is planting its seeds in Fort McMurray.
Water Ski and Wakeboard Alberta announced Sunday that the Syncrude Indoor Water Ski Program will be kicking off its pilot project, teaching people in the RMWB all about the ways of watersports.
This after WSWA selected the newly formed WaterSki Wood Buffalo to test out the inaugural project.
Founder of WaterSki Wood Buffalo and WSWA board member Sheldon Germain tells Mix News they expect to have facilities fully up and running within this year.
“We’ve been working very hard to get the indoor simulator in place and ready to go. We’re going to do some testing on it for the rest of the year and we’re going to be ready for programming probably by November of 2018 for learn-to-ski and developmental programs.”
In partnership with the Regional Recreation Corporation, the program will operate out of the Syncrude Aquatic Centre at MacDonald Island Park.
The program will introduce people to towed-watersports in a safe and barrier-free atmosphere and use an indoor winch for skiing and riding.
Germain feels this is an easy way to bring watersports to Fort McMurray.
“The goal is to encourage people that enjoy towed-watersports. I see a lot of boats around Fort McMurray and I think we just need to do a little bit to help people understand there are tons of fun things you can do behind them. That’s what WaterSki Wood Buffalo is all about.”
If you’d like more information on the program, Germain says you can contact the WSWA Facebook page.
