Fort McMurray firefighters are going to be braving the elements for the 7th annual rooftop campout.
The event was scheduled for the beginning of the month – but was postponed after the death of one of their members.
Firefighters will now campout on top of the Tim Hortons in Eagle Ridge from May 2-5.
Firefighter Scott Germain tells Mix News this is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.
“Normally we raise over $40, 000 and that does go to local charities so it’s important for us to be able to hold the event to make sure we can donate to our charities at the end of the year.”
Those charities include the Fort McMurray S.P.C.A., Centre of Hope, Waypoints, Boys and Girls Club and the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.
This year Germain says there will be lots of activities for families whilst the firefighters are on the roof.
“Our pancake breakfast will be on May 5, which is our closing day, which is a Saturday and then that night we will be coming off the roof and holding a wrap up party at East Village Pub.”
Last year’s event raised roughly $47,000.
