Golf enthusiasts won’t have to wait too much longer to get back into the swing of things.
Despite there still being snow on the ground, both local courses are hoping to have everything ready by the end of the month.
General Manager of the Fort McMurray Golf Club Michael Gillan tells Mix News they’re expecting to have their driving range opened in the next couple of weeks.
“Because we’re off of mats on the range we can get people down here and at least get some rust off of their swings and enjoy a cold beverage and some laughs.”
As for an official date for the course, they’re currently eyeing April 26 but will all depend on whether or not winter is done with us.
Meanwhile, the Miskanaw Golf Club is also hoping to have everything opened before May.
However, Senior Golf Manager at the Miskanaw Golf Club Jason Vaughn says they’re still trying to pinpoint an exact date.
“We don’t have an exact date because with the weather it’s hard to nail down a date with it constantly changing but we are working as hard as we can, so when the weather does cooperate it won’t be too long.”
He adds he has high hopes for an April start date. In his 12 years in Fort McMurray, Vaughn says he’s only seen two seasons startup in May.
