There’s life for the MOB yet.
The Fort McMurray Oil Barons managed to stave off elimination on Friday night with a 3-2 win over the Whitecourt Wolverines.
The Barons are now down 3-games to 2 – with the series shifting back to Whitecourt for game six.
Head Coach Tom Keca tells Mix News in order to force a game seven they will have to come out guns blazing.
“The series has been about puck management. Making sure that we move the puck quickly and intelligently and then trying to get shots with traffic in front. They’ve got a great goaltender in between their pipes and if we’re not going to get traffic in front then we’re not going to be very successful.”
Starting goalie Eric Szudor also made his return from injury in game five and while backup Chris Curr played very admirably in his absence, Keca notes it’s good to have both goalies healthy again.
He says the team has some renewed motivation with Szudor back between the pipes.
“We let him know on Wednesday that he would be starting Friday and we’ll only go as far as our goaltending takes us. Whether it’s Eric or Chris, as long as they take us as far as we can go. It’s great for Eric to get back in and be successful. I know it put a huge smile on his face last night.
Game 6 is tonight at the Scott Safety Centre in Whitecourt, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
