One of the world’s most renowned cricket players is coming to Fort McMurray.
Last Friday, the Fort McMurray Cricket Association announced the ‘Michael Jordan’ of cricket was coming to town.
Shahid Afridi, or known by his nickname ‘Boom Boom’, will be touring across Canada looking to raise funds for his organization.
President of the Association Irfan Bangash tells Mix News Afridi is one of the most decorated cricket stars in the history of the sport.
“This guy has played and captained Pakistan in all three formats – his style of play is really aggressive and crowd-pulling because he’s a hard-hitting batsman, he brings excitement to the game.”
He says in many cases, including his own, fans from all over the world stay up at all hours of the night to watch him take the pitch.
“If Afridi is featuring in any of the games, a lot of us, we stay up late to 2 -3 a.m., watch his game, and then go to sleep.”
Bangash notes this will be a chance for local cricket fans to witness one of the greatest to ever play the sport.
Afridi will be in Fort McMurray on April 28.
