The Fort McMurray Midget ‘AA’ Junior Oil Barons will see their first action in nearly a month.
The Midget Barons haven’t played since dropping a pair of losses to the PAC Saints back in early January
Heading into this weekend – they are currently ranked 4th in their division with a record of 9-15-2.
Head Coach Dan Hodgson tells Mix News his team will need to be on its toes to have success through the rest of the season.
“The city teams tend to be pretty strong so, it’s going to come down to a consistent effort from all the guys. Making sure we’re taking care of accountability in the d-zone. That’s always been a big theme for us this season.”
Hodgson says his team is looking to get back into the swing of things after all that time off, as they enter the final six games of the regular season.
He notes with the season winding down – their success will come down to hard work.
“It’s just how bad you want it,” Hodgson says. “We got a skilled group of kids, they’re quick, they’re tenacious. It’s a matter of finishing now. You gotta put the puck in the net and obviously not allow the other team to penetrate.”
The Barons are on the road this weekend where they’ll be taking on CAC Butchers & Packers and the KC Colts.
Peewee Barons Host Whitecourt For Weekend Doubleheader
The Fort McMurray Peewee ‘AA’ Junior Oil Barons are also back in action this weekend.
The Peewee Barons look to bounce back from a pair of losses last week – as they kick off a doubleheader against the Whitecourt Wolverines.
With six games remaining in the season, the Barons are 11-12-3.
Head Coach Sean McFatridge tells Mix News heading into the weekend, they’ll have to be weary of a hardworking Wolverines squad.
“These kids gotta come out and play hard today and tomorrow,” McFatridge says. “We played each other a couple weeks ago, those guys did have a hardworking team. They fore-check well so, we have to be prepared for a good effort.”
McFatridge says it’s their goal to end the season in at least 2nd place in their division.
Puck drops for game 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Frank Lacroix Arena.
Bantam Barons Week Off Well-Earned
The Fort McMurray Bantam ‘AA’ Junior Oil Barons get to enjoy their first week off in nearly a month.
The Bantam Barons picked up 2 out of 3 wins last weekend, with a 9-3 win over Dawson Creek, followed by a tough 12-0 loss to Fort St. John – before capping off the weekend with an 8-1 win over Dawson Creek yet again.
That pushes the Barons to 8-12-6, good for 4th place in their division.
They are back in action next weekend as they hit the road for a doubleheader against the GPAC Storm.
