The Fort McMurray Oil Barons continue to roll through the new year.
After wins on Thursday and Friday over Whitecourt and Grand Prairie, the Barons have now won 6 straight games pushing their record to 31-6-and-2.
Head Coach Tom Keca tells Mix News it was good to see his team keep their composure – despite the league’s trade deadline looming over them.
“Great test for us Thursday beating Whitecourt, which is one of the north division powers. For us to get a win there was crucial. Then played a high octane team in Grand Prairie, who like to run and gun and score a lot of goals and I thought we did an excellent job keeping them in check and coming out with a hard earned 5-2 win.”
The trade deadline saw two new additions, one whom Keca did not name but the other should be able to chip in on offense here and there.
The Barons acquired Canmore Eagles Captain and leading-scorer Coy Prevost before this week’s deadline.
In 38 games with the Eagles, Prevost has 17 goals and 22 assists, which places him third in Barons’ scoring and he’s well on his way to notching his third straight 20-goal season.
Despite the new additions, Fort McMurray is still a little injury riddled – something that hasn’t stuck it’s head out much in their six-game win span.
Keca gives a lot of credit to the team’s success goes to their locker room Coach Tom chemistry.
“It’s easier to compete when you like everyone in your room. We’ve always had a very strong dressing room, we’ve got a great leadership group, our young guys are learning a lot and they’re bringing their attributes to the table as well. So, as a coaching staff, we couldn’t be happier with the mixture we have in that room.”
The Barons will be back in action next Friday when the Brooks Bandits pay a visit to the Casman Centre.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
