With the holiday break approaching, many city services and businesses are changing their operating hours throughout the RMWB.

If you need to do some last minute shopping Peter Pond Mall which will be open on Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., but closed on Christmas Day.

The mall will also be open 12-5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve but closed again on New Year’s Day.

Meanwhile, the movie theatre and some outdoor skating rinks will be open throughout the Christmas break.

As for municipal services;

There will be no curbside waste or recycling collection on both Christmas and New Year’s Day. If your garbage pick up is originally scheduled for Monday, Dec. 25, it will now be picked up Saturday, Dec. 23.

Those who are supposed to receive service on Monday, January 1, will have their garbage and recycling collected on Tuesday, January 2.

From January 2-5, all other residents will receive their collection one day later than normal.

Regular service will resume on January 8.

Transit Services:

When it comes to the transit schedule, there will be a few changes on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

On December 25-26 and January 1st, only the Airport Shuttle (Route 11), the Thickwood and Timberlea Express (Routes 15 and 16), as well as the MacDonald Island Shuttle (99) will be operational on a special schedule.

These will be the only buses running on those dates.

Service for these buses will be extended until 2 a.m., on New Year’s Eve.

Fort McMurray Landfill:

The landfill will be closed December 25 and January 1, and open regular hours throughout the rest of the holiday season.

Janvier and Conklin Transfer Stations:

Both transfer stations will be closed on December 24 – 26, and again on January 1 – 2. Regular location hours will resume on January 3 in Janvier, and January 4 in Conklin.

Christmas tree recycling:

A number of Christmas tree recycling sites will be set up throughout Fort McMurray. The RMWB is asking that all stands and decorations are removed before bringing it to any of the marked drop off sites, which will be open from Christmas Day until Jan. 15 in the parking lots at the following locations:

  • Frank LaCroix Arena – Beacon Hill
  • Haxton Centre/Borealis Park – Downtown
  • Sobey’s – Thickwood
  • Syncrude Athletic Park – Timberlea
  • Michelle’s Your Independent Grocer – Timberlea,
  • Heritage Drive skate park – Parsons North

Fitness:

Keyano Sport and Wellness ‏Centre will be closed from Sunday, December 24, until January 1 for the holidays. It will reopen on January 2 at 5 a.m.

The Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The centre will re-open on Boxing Day from 7:00 a.m. – 10: 00 p.m. All other holiday hours for the Park can be found here.

Vista Ridge Ski Hill will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and January 1.

Other:

The RMWB’s municipal offices will be closed on December 25 and 26, as well as January 1. All essential and emergency services will continue regular operations. For more information, call Pulse at 780-743-7000 evenings, weekends and holidays.
