A Keyano College teacher is publishing an old story she wrote after finding her journal after the wildfire.
Cynthia O’Donnell and her daughter Suzy were cleaning up her home in Thickwood shortly after returning to the community.
The home suffered some light smoke damage and while cleaning they found her old journal which included a story O’Donnell wrote five years earlier.
“I knew it was there but you kind of forget about it when you’re busy with life,” she said.
The book focuses on her daughter’s trip to a mountain resort but in the eyes of her basset hound.
After editing the script and working on the illustrations for roughly a year, they were able to publish “Blue’s Mountain Christmas” during the fall.
“I wrote the story immediately but there it sat in my closet, year after year after year until finally after the wildfire we found it.”
O’Donnell says it really hasn’t sunken in that she’s now a published author.
“It’s very exciting, it’s gratifying, it was a year of hard work and it’s worth it – I would say go for it, we all have stories to tell.”
She will be holding a book signing at the Keyano Book Store on Friday from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
