Canadian Natural Resources Limited is looking to possibly expand their Horizon Oilsands project north of Fort McMurray.
The oil company is reviewing the idea of adding bitumen production at the site by “leveraging specialized paraffinic froth treatment technology.”
This project would not be an expansion of any mine but an added project to the site.
It would add an additional 30,000 – 40,000 bbl.
CNRL recently finished their Phase 3 expansion at the Horizon site, adding around 80,000 barrels per day. They are expecting by December that their production will increase to 240,000 bpd.
In an email sent to Mix News, CNRL notes they have finished the initial design of the project with the earliest construction would start if the costs are favorable, would be 2019.
