An airstrip in Conklin has reopened after a collision between an airplane and two deer.

Wood Buffalo RCMP say on Tuesday, a Sunwest Aviation Dash 8 was landing on the MEG Energy Christina Lake Aerodrome when the animals jumped out in front and hit the propeller.

43 passengers and four crew members were onboard at the time of the incident. Police say no one was injured, but the deer did not survive.

The Mounties note while this is a rare occurrence, Sunwest Aviation is working with the airstrip operator on possible options available in order to make landings safer for wildlife.
