Trail Restoration and Firebreak Rehabilition Getting Underway In Timberlea And Eagle Ridge

Firebreak rehabilitation and trail restoration in Eagle Ridge and Timberlea is set to begin the first full week of September.

The work is scheduled to be completed before 2017 is through in areas near Walnut and Fireweed Crescents and on the north side of the Birchwood Trails in Eagle Ridge and Timberlea.

In 2018, work will continue in the firebreak areas of Abasand, Anzac, Dickinsfield and Thickwood.

According to the RMWB, the first 30 metres from the back of property lines will be graded, with topsoil and grass seed added.

They also note approximately 30 per cent of firebreak areas beyond that first 30 metres will receive similar treatment with the hope that remaining firebreak areas restore themselves naturally.

Crews will also try to restore trails that were damaged or destroyed beyond repair during last year’s wildfire.

As efforts progress, the municipality says residents should remain cautious as heavy machinery will be present in these area and recreational use and access to backyards will be prohibited.
