Three Female Students Receive $3,000 Scholarships

Three female students are getting scholarships from Girls Inc. and Syncrude.

Sara Voyageur, Una Walsh, and Shruti Shah are each getting $3,000 for being the 2017/18 Women of Inspiration Education Scholarship Award Winners.

The money will help them pursue their post-secondary education.

Voyageur is the recipient of the Elsie Yanik Memorial Scholarship, receiving the money for her community work helping elders in the RMWB.

She will be entering her third year in Bachelor of Science at Keyano College.

In a release, Girls Inc. notes Voyageur “plans on returning home and use her nursing degree to help keep her community healthy.”

The Barb Jewers Memorial Scholarship went to Walsh who’s spent time volunteering in Fort McMurray and Kelowna, working with the organization H.O.P.E. Outreach.

“She and others go out every evening to provide outreach services to homeless including supplies and support that they need for their survival,” said the release.

Walsh is working on her Bachelor of Nursing Degree and is planning on returning to Fort McMurray for her career.

Meanwhile, Shah is getting a scholarship to help her pursue a career in medicine.

She’s currently studying at the University of Alberta looking to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

The release notes Shah hopes to join Doctors Without Borders working in the international medical field.
