The Nunee Health Authority in Fort Chipewyan is receiving funding to help end elder abuse.

On Thursday, to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the province announced $1.5 million would be split by 31 different groups and municipalities across the province.

This is the final year of their three-year plan, with the government of Alberta allocating $3.7 million in the program.

In total, the Society will get $47,500 to help support a coordinator to develop a coordinated community response model.

Over the past two years, the St. Aidan’s Society in Fort McMurray also received $150,000, the maximum they could receive through the program.

St. Aidan’s, along with the Golden Year’s Society, are hosting multiple events across the community for Senior’s month.
