The Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee will meet for the last time on Wednesday.
Their last meeting will be a busy one as they discuss the acquisition of 14 properties in Waterways.
The Recovery Task Force is recommending the committee support the acquisition of these lots at pre-fire values. Last month, council approved the acquisition of 21 properties, along Cliff Avenue and High Avenue, due to high-risk movement along the slope.
The 14 remaining lots were given the green light to rebuild, however, many of the owners expressed their desire to get a buyout due to the potential safety risks.
There are some property owners who would rather rebuild which could make the recovery committee send a motion to council giving the residents the choice of rebuilding or accepting a buyout.
Barring a last-minute motion, this will be the last recommendation the committee will make.
During the meeting, they will also be discussing health and wellness, “Here for You” information sessions, insurance, and phase three of soil sampling.
The committee will meet at the council chambers on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
