Firefighters Begin 100 Hour Rooftop Campout

Firefighters taking part in the 2017 rooftop campout

Local firefighters will be sitting on a roof for the next four days to help raise money for charity.

The 6th annual “Rooftop Campout” is underway at the Tim Hortons at Eagle Ridge. Five firefighters will be braving the cold for the next 100 hours, eating, sleeping and raising funds for five local organizations.

The goal is to raise more than $40,000 and donate it to the Fort McMurray SPCA, Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club, Wood Buffalo Food Bank, Centre of Hope and Waypoints.

So far, they’ve been able to raise just over $11,000.

On Saturday, the final day of the campout, a pancake breakfast will be held at the East Village Pub and Eatery from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The five firefighters will be heading down later that day before the closing ceremonies starting at 8:00 p.m. at EVP.

Anyone who wants to donate can go to the Tim Hortons where the firefighters will lower a boot to put the funds in.
