An early learning and child care centre in Anzac is receiving funding from the Government of Alberta.
The daycare, which is run by the Willow Lake Tiny Tots Society, is one of 22 to receive money aimed at reducing costs for families. These ELCC Centres will now offer $25-a-day child care.
Chair of the Willow Lake Tiny Tots Board Hilary Banks tells Mix News their bottom line before was $1,100 a month for full registration which is nearly double the price without the funding.
She says this will help many families still struggling from the wildfire and evacuation.
“We’ve had quite a few layoffs here locally so it’s been hard for parents to make ends meet and it’s just been hard for the community. There hasn’t been any stable childcare accessible to the people other than knowing someone and they take your child in their home.”
The funding will also be used to help move into a bigger space. Banks notes the move will allow them to take in more children as right now their license only allows for 14 but with the bigger space they hoping to help upwards of 30.
“I have had parents stop me and just say what wonderful news, this is going to mean so much for Anzac.”
This project is expected to last for three years. The society can apply for additional funding next year if needed.
