Oil Barons Kicking Off Division Final

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons Division Final starts on Friday at the Casman Centre.

They will be taking on the Whitecourt Wolverines, fresh off a tough seven-game series against the Spruce Grove Saints.

Head Coach Tom Keca tells Mix News they have their work cut out for them stopping the second-best offense in the league.

“I think for us, it’s just a matter of willingness to skate and compete. Defense zone is hard work, everybody wants to play offense, you have to be disciplined in your defensive zone.”

Whitecourt was able to score 254 goals, second to the Brooks Bandits. The winner of this series will play the winner of the other Division Final between the Bandits and Okotoks Oilers.

During the regular season, the Oil Barons were able to win three of the five games against the Wolverines. Both teams scored 12 goals with the Oil Barons winning the last three matchups.

Keca notes he’s expecting to see a great effort their opponent who are aiming at winning at least one game in Fort McMurray.

¬†“We have to make sure we can protect our home ice advantage in this round which is going to be crucial. There is a fine line between rust and rest, so we’re rested so hopefully we can knock off the rust off as quick as we can.”
Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
Game 2 will take place on Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Casman Centre.
