Log Barricades Set Up In Cleared Areas In Saprae Creek To Mitigate ATV Use

Fort McMurray, AB, Canada / MIX 103.7

Log barricades are being set up to mitigate ATV use in neighbourhoods around Fort McMurray.

The temporary barriers are in response to firebreak and tree removal work giving more access for off-highway vehicles in Saprae Creek.

Residents expressed their frustration at a Here for You session last month. Many told Mix News with the amount of burned trees and mulching going on, trails are being created behind homes wide enough for ATVs and snowmobiles, which they say is more of a danger to anyone than a falling tree.

At that meeting, Councillor Alan Vinni proposed some volunteers work with the Recovery Committee to come up with a plan to block the trails.

The RMWB says they’re now working with residents to create a more permanent plan to stop the increase of OHV use in the areas around Thickwood, Timberlea and Parsons Creek.

If you want to report any OHV misuse, you can contact Bylaw Services or RCMP,
