The province is moving forward with the long-awaited continuing care facility for downtown Fort McMurray.

On Monday, a Request For Proposal was sent out for a consultant to develop a master site plan for Willow Square.

In a release, Infrastructure Minister Brian Mason says they are committed to building a continuing care centre at Willow Square to provide seniors with access to good care and support.

“This RFP is another step forward in the development of both the facility and the site, in cooperation with the community and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Significant effort has gone into laying the groundwork for this project and I’m excited to see it move ahead.”

Last month, at the Land Planning and Transportation Committee, Alberta Infrasture released plans for Willow Square. The hope is to have a 108-bed facility and an additional 36 beds on 5th floor in case the need increases.

The RFP closes on March 7th.
