Wood Buffalo RCMP arrest man after drunken joyride

A 26-year-old Fort McMurray man is facing a number of charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and driving impaired.

Around 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Wood Buffalo RCMP were notified that someone had stolen a delivery vehicle from a downtown business.

Police say a few minutes later, the same truck was reportedly involved in a hit and run on Franklin Avenue.

Officers eventually located the vehicle going south on Highway 63.

The driver then drove the truck into the ditch, where he was arrested.

The man faces a slew of charges, including theft of a truck and impaired driving, and assaulting a police officer.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
