MOB Take Top Spot In AJHL North Division

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons finished their three game road series atop the AJHL North Division.

The MOB kicked it all off with a win in Canmore on Friday. They kept their eight-game streak alive in Okotok’s Saturday night, before finishing with a 1-0 win over Olds on Sunday.

With the weekend sweep, the Oil Barons are now one point ahead of the Whitecourt Wolverines.

Speaking on Fort McMurray Matters before the road trip, Head Coach Tom Keca said they don’t worry too much about the standing.

“At the end of the day, we’re worried about our dressing room and the things we can control. The message to the players is we’re going to try and win every game the rest will take care of itself.”

He adds the team trains hard, but it’s trips like these that provide the most experience.

“These are the types of weekends that prepare you better for playoffs. When you get to playoffs, you’re basically playing two games, you get a day off and then play four games in five nights. We like to think that schedule we have throughout the year prepares us for that long playoff run that we’ll have.”

The Oil Barons go for their 10th straight win when they host Sherwood Park on Friday at the Casman Centre. Puck drops at 8:00 p.m.
