Special Weather Statement Ended For Wood Buffalo

We could be in for some nasty weather later today.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for northeastern Alberta, including the Wood Buffalo region.

Communities under the statement include:

  • Lac La Biche Co. near Crow Lake Prov. Park
  • Lac La Biche Co. nearWiau¬†Winefred¬†and Grist Lakes
  • M. of Wood Buffalo near Fort MacKay and Wallace Creek
  • M. of Wood Buffalo near Fort McMurray and Anzac
  • M. of Wood Buffalo near Gipsy Lake and Whitemud Falls
  • M. of Wood Buffalo near Grand Rapids Wildland Prov. Park
  • M. of Wood Buffalo near Janvier South and Conklin
  • M. of Wood Buffalo near Mariana Lake
  • R.M. of Wood Buffalo near Stony Mtn Prov. Park and Engstrom Lake

The weather agency says a fast-moving low-pressure system is expected to develop in the Foothills this afternoon before tracking northeast.

The system is expected to bring freezing rain near areas along Highway 63 up to Fort Chipewyan early this evening, then switch to snow late tonight.

Officials say depending on how the system develops, weather warnings could be issued.
