Five organizations in the RMWB are getting an early Christmas gift from the Fort McMurray Firefighters Association.
Members of the fire department surprised Waypoints, Wood Buffalo Food Bank, Boys and Girls Club of Fort McMurray, Centre of Hope and the Fort McMurray SPCA with a cheque for $15 thousand each on our show Fort McMurray Matters.
Firefighter Scott Germain says they raised most of the money for this donation at their “Beast Whiskey Auction” event in October.
“Unfortunately, with the wildfire this year, we weren’t able to do our normal fundraiser event, such as our calendar and rooftop campout. So, we wanted to think of a different way to raise some money for all you guys, so we were lucky to partner with the Wood Buffalo Brewing Company and they brewed a whisky for us and we actually raised most of our money there.”
Executive Director of Waypoints Michele Taylor says they will use the money for a new child trauma councillor.
“And we have to prepare some rooms for child trauma counselling and play therapy, so we are going to use the money for that.”
SPCA Executive Director Tara Clarke says the donation will support their continued efforts in the recovery of this community.
“And ensuring that pet owners have every opportunity to keep their pets within their families.”
Meanwhile, Arianna Johnson with the Food Bank says they take pride in being one of the Firefighters charities and are proud to be supported by the association.
