With the economic downturn and the high cost of instruments and lessons, getting a kid into music can seem like a pipe dream.
Tervita Instruments of Change in Woodbuffalo, in partnership with Legacy Children’s Foundation, kicked off an indie GoGo campaign last month to help make the dream a reality for children in the region.
The aim of Legacy’s Gift of Music Campaign is to help young people stay in school and complete their education and stay on a “positive life path”, all through music and long-term mentoring.
Local Coordinator, David Martin, says that this new two-month campaign was set up to help pay for deserving youth to be paired with a music mentor and learn the musical style of their choosing.
Instruments of Change helps many kids in the region get into musical instruments whether it’s Guitar, Drums or Keyboards.
Even with the campaign happening, Martin says that Instruments of Change in Woodbuffalo will also accept lightly used items as well.
“We’ve had a lot of donations from local musicians, sometimes they’ll donate a cable or tuner or soft case gig bag, those things are handy for kids.”
