Fire Chief Allen honored by Maclean's as Newsmaker of the year

Fire Chief Darby Allen provides a wildfire update on morning of May 2, 2016

Fire Chief Darby Allen is being honored as one of Maclean’s top Newsmakers of 2016.

The annual list showcases the year’s highlights, lowlights, major moments and most important people of the year.

Allen has become somewhat of a folk hero because of his role during the Wildfires, and has been honored and recognized several times over.

He tells Mix News he accepts these awards and honors on behalf of all the Emergency Responders who helped with the evacuation of the region.

“I was proud and honored to do my job, but you know on another day it might have been somebody else and I’m sure they might have done such a great job too. I certainly don’t take any personal credit, and I just appreciate everything everybody did.”

Allen joins Gord Downie and Justin Trudeau on Maclean’s list.
