The province held a special recognition ceremony Monday to acknowledge the heroic actions of Albertans during the spring’s wildfire.
Individuals representing nine first responder organizations were honored by the Premier and Opposition leaders.
“Today we reflect on the actions of the hundreds of Albertans who, during the Wood Buffalo wildfire, went above and beyond in the service of their community. We honor them for their compassion and courage, at times putting their own safety at risk for the well-being of family, friends and neighbors,” says Premier Rachel Notley in a release.
A few people who were nominated through the Heroes of the Wildfire online recognition program were also acknowledged for their help during the wildfire.
You can still nominate people until November 28th.
The province estimates around 12, 000 people were directly involved in the wildfire emergency effort and countless others from across the province.
