If your child was planning to dress up as a clown for school this Halloween, they will have to find a new costume.
The Fort McMurray Public School District is banning all clown costumes this year, after threats were made against certain schools in the city, earlier this month.
Wood Buffalo RCMP discovered a 15-year-old girl made a post on social media, under the username McMurray Clowns, threatening to kidnap children and saying no one is safe.
In a letter sent out to parents, Superintendent Doug Nichols says the decision to ban clown costumes this Halloween is in the best interest of their students, staff and district.
He adds the school district doesn’t want any uneasiness or added stress during Halloween activities.
Individuals dressed as clowns have been threatening people not only locally, but around the world.
