Ten thousand free pairs of shoes have been handed-out to Fort McMurray residents.
The free footwear event was put on by Nostco at the NorthLife fellowship Baptist Church on Wednesday.
Director of Nostco Rachel Onsang tells Mix News the companies across Canada donated the shoes. They were then collected in Edmonton.
Onsang adds there’s just a few odd size shoes left.
“We have a regular attendance that comes through Nostco. People are aware of it and they come there about once a week to see what they can get and I imagine within a week the few remaining pairs will be gone as well.”
Onsang adds they’ve helped over ten thousand families since summer at Nostco.
“I can’t even put a number on the number of people that are in desparte need of help. But I know that we’ve seen over ten thousand families come through Nostco in July, August and September.”
Onsang expects that number to rise as the weather gets colder.
