Wood Buffalo RCMP say a teen girl is responsible for posting a threatening message on social media targeting Fort McMurray high schools.
Monday evening police received complaints after a post showed up on Instagram targeting certain schools and threatening to kidnap children.
Investigators tracked down the IP address and took four individuals into custody for questioning.
They have all since been released.
Following the interviews, officers determined the girl was responsible for the post. It’s not known if she attends a high school in Fort McMurray, but police tell us she is not known to police.
No charges have been laid, but the investigation continues.
The post caused the public and catholic district school boards to place schools into a shelter-in-place order for a few hours yesterday morning.
