Local women receive $5,000 scholarhips

Three Fort McMurray women have five thousand dollar scholarships to help with their continuing education.

Girls Inc of Northern Alberta announced the recipients of the Women of Inspiration Education Scholarship for 2015-2016.

Chelsi Ryan is currently enrolled at Keyano College in the Bachelor of Elementary Education program, is an intern with Junior Achievement teaching children about financial literacy, serves on the Student’s Association of Keyano College, and continues to run a local woman’s wellness network called “Her Mission”.

Aiman Naeem wishes to combine her love for mathematics, passion for science and dedication to helping others by pursuing biomedical engineering at the University of Alberta where she will be studying both chemical and biomedical engineering.

Naeem served on the Executive in Student Council, was the secretary of the Colours Multicultural Club, was a member of the Student Wellness and Action Team and served on the Yearbook Committee.

Makayla Farrell is entering her fourth year at the University of Alberta where she is earning her degree in postsecondary education with a bachelor of science – majoring in biology with a minor in economics.

Farrell’s community service includes being a mentor with Big Brothers/ Big Sisters where she spends 2-3 hours per week mentoring a child and is an avid supporter of the Fort McMurray art world.

Executive Director of Girls Inc. Ann Dort-MacLean says Girls Inc. is proud to help these amazing young women pursue their career goals adding they are honoured to be able to be a small part of their development into the next generation of Inspirational Women.
