UPDATE: Two confirmed dead in four vehicle collision

Police are investigating a four vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 63 and Fort McKay turnoff yesterday afternoon.

There are two confirmed fatalities and one male was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor

Southbound on highway 63 and the entrance into Fort McKay was closed for several hours with traffic alternating using the northbound lane.

A further update will be made when more information becomes available.

Wood Buffalo RCMP and emergency crews are currently at the scene of a four vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 63 and Fort McKay, north of Fort McMurray.

The RCMP are currently investigating fatalities resulting from the crash along with other injuries being reported but are unknown to the exact extent.

Southbound on highway 63 and the entrance into Fort McKay have been closed off.

Traffic travelling south will be directed onto the Northbound lanes, which is being alternated with the Northbound traffic.

As of right now there is no timetable for when the highway and intersection will be fully operational.

A further update will be made when more information becomes available.
