Wording in demolition orders that is upsetting to some residents is simply legalese.
That’s the message from RMWB spokesperson Robin Smith who says the wording in the demolition orders sent to residents with homes that were irreparably damaged or destroyed by the wildfire is a legal requirement.
Smith says the municipality needs to use this language to ensure that it can complete the demolition and debris removal for residents who are unable to complete those steps.
The orders are crucial to recovery, but Smith says the city acknowledges the distress that they have caused some residents.
He adds those residents can be assured that administration’s thoughts are with the recipients of the orders, as they have suffered the most as a result of the wildfire.
